About

Denny received a bachelors degree in Computer Science from Harvard College in 1996 and a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the University of Washington Medical School in 2014.  Between the two he developed children’s therapy software at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs (MERL), wrote emotional AI systems and interactive music systems at three different MIT Media Labs startups, composed music for Jim Henson and Nickelodeon, and developed cryptography code for Microsoft.  At UW, his doctoral thesis centered on developing in silico tools for small-molecule drug discovery, specifically targeting disease-associated mutants of the p53 tumor suppressor protein.  At Tableau, he has focused on developing interactive analytics tools that put as much analytical power as possible into the hands of non-programmer users, including the Parameter Action and Set Action features.  He is currently working on analytics tools to help people of all technical skill levels analyze and gain insights from data.
